Yellow springs OH to Grantville KS

Woke up, showered for the last time for what I think will be a while and went on a short hike around glen Helen with Hannah.

Saw the yellow spring for which the town is named after, and saw some awesome swimming holes that noone is allowed to swim in. Then a turkey vulture scared the hell out of me as it swooped overhead. Damn raptors!

This is a picture of a waterfall that we saw on our hike - not the yellow spring. I forgot to take a picture of it on my phone. O well.

Praise Jesus! We had a heads up on the "worlds largest cross" with the help of the roadside America iPhone app. So we had to stop; it was right off the highway. Circling the cross were stations featuring the 10 commandments, complete with a button to push in case you were too lazy to read with was written on the plaques.
The cross welcome center had some of the absolute cleanest bathrooms I have ever seen, as well as a room that had a looping documentary about the cross, which reminded me of the brainwashing room from lost.

Driving driving that's what we do. Drove through Kansas city which angered Artemis that it wasn't actually in kansas.
Found a campground, which was home to a deranged petting zoo full of animals that can't wait to bite you. It featured angry goats, hissing ducks, loud swans and about 30 feral cats.
Made a campfire with wood scrounged from a brush pile full of branches and old furnature. Hen watched fireflies while wondering what a firefly would think of the show firefly.

Stay out of the no zone.

Day one of fun

Hadley, massachusetts to yellow springs, Ohio

This week was crazy. It was a complete mad rush to try to get everything taken care of in time. Especially the whole "ups wouldn't deliver my tent without a signature" experience.
We left just after 5am on Friday - Ive been sleeping horribly lately due to too much coffee in order to get everythig done. Oh well. Let us get this snow on the road.

Stopped at a truck stop for lunch. Lamar latrelle's (from revenge of the nerds) truck stop, I can only assume. Truck stops are great because of the wide variety of items that they have there for sale. I like to assume that only truckers are allowed to buy the things sold here:

(in the event of an absolute desire to celebrate Halloween immediately)

(Underwear emergency!!????)

After that, we drove. And drove some more. The first phase in the plan of the trip is try to get out west as fast as possible. Yes, this will mean missing out on some interesting roadside attractions... For now.

If the south is the land of Jesus, then the Midwest is the land of steaks. Every 10 miles there is a giant billboard tempting you to eat a giagantic steak. For 11.99, why not? There is also a restaurant called "steak and shake" which honestly just sounds like a steak milkshake. Plenty of sonics
Out here too; which I am sure the locals take completely for granted.

After dinner, and going to dublin, oh to be be bombarded with the largest collection of strip malls that I have ever seen, we stopped to stay with my friend Hannah who lives in yellow springs. And there is a raptor center on the premesis. And by raptors, I mean birds. We got a tour of the place and got to see barn owls, vultures and a one winged bald eagle.
Following a campfire and some marshed mallows, we went to bed. Up by 7am is the plan. Oh sounds awesome.

Day negative two

It's kind of sort of starting to sink in that this trip is actually happening. Artemis and I drove to bjs in Chicopee to load up on bulk food goodness. I will be eating a lot of granola and beans.

there is still way too much that I need to do tomorrow. Laundry. Seal the tent. Buy even more food and some somescream. Plus I decided to drive back to shrewsbury for the sole purpose of getting my dads gps. Because, unlike Artemis', it doesn't take 19 hours to get a gps signal. She is back in rowley now getting the car inspected. We also bought our national parks pass, which is way less cool looking than I imagined.
Leaving at 5am on Friday. One day of work left.
